Port Susan Farmers' Market Awarded $77,732 Grant

The City of Stanwood, Washington applied for a grant from the Farmers Market Promotion Program to support the formation of the Port Susan FarmersMarket Association. The Association will start and operate the Port Susan FarmersMarket.

Funds are included in this request to partially fund the second year of operation of the market, which will contribute to the sustainability of this project. Project time period is Oct 2011 - Sep 2013. The City of Stanwood is partnering with a strong group of collaborating farmers and organizations to complete this project. The organizing committee will work with the City to create a position description that will be used to hire a project manager. It is planned that this person will transition to be the Market Manager.

Goals of the Project

The Market Manger will assist in creating a steering committee and organizing the farmers and other vendors into a farmers’ market association. The work plan will be implemented by the famers’ market association, with assistance and direction from the City of Stanwood and the collaborators. There is overwhelming support in our local community to have a successful farmer’ market in Stanwood. It is our intention to have a market celebration in June of 2012!

The Farmers' Market is the next step in Harvest Jubilee's direct marketing efforts to raise awareness and profitability of local farms.  For more information:   www.portsusanfoodandfarmingcenter.org.
